Full medical writing team on-demand — regulatory-grade documents, ICH-aligned templates, and traceability built into every deliverable.
Every statement in the draft links to its source, such as AE listing 16.2.7, so the reviewer checks it in place.
Medical writing produces the regulated documents a clinical programme depends on — protocols, study reports, narratives, investigator brochures and submission components. The scarce skill is interpreting data, constructing an argument a regulator will accept, and anticipating what a reviewer will challenge. Most of a writer's week is currently spent on transcription instead.
Outcomes you can expect
- ICH-aligned regulatory documents
- Traceable claims per section
- Faster turnaround with TraceDraft

Medical Writing in Regulated Drug Development: What Quality Actually Means
Regulatory medical writing is not a writing task with a regulatory framing. It is a regulatory task that requires disciplined writing. The regulatory medical writer's job is to translate clinical, pharmacological, and safety data into documents that support agency decision-making — IND annual reports, Investigator's Brochures, IND packages, safety updates, and health authority query responses — in formats and at quality standards that regulators use directly. A document that is scientifically accurate but poorly structured, imprecisely referenced, or inconsistent with the applicable ICH template will fail in regulatory review regardless of the underlying data quality.
The quality standard for regulatory medical writing is set by the document's intended use. An Investigator's Brochure must inform investigators accurately about the compound so they can make informed consent and safety reporting decisions. A Development Safety Update Report must present accumulated safety data in a format that EMA and FDA reviewers can assess efficiently against the benefit-risk framework. An IND Annual Report must demonstrate to FDA that the programme is advancing safely and that the cumulative safety experience supports continued development. Each document type has its own regulatory expectations for content, format, completeness, and precision.

TraceDraft: Source Traceability Built Into the Writing Process
The most persistent quality problem in regulatory medical writing is source traceability — the ability to verify that every clinical claim, safety finding, and statistical result in a regulatory document traces back to the primary source data that the claim is based on. In a traditional medical writing workflow, traceability is managed manually: writers insert citations, cross-reference tables and listings, and maintain a correspondence table. This process is error-prone, time-consuming, and produces documents where traceability degrades with each revision cycle as edits move content without updating citations.
TraceDraft was built to solve this. Every section of a TraceDraft-generated document is generated from source data — AE listings, statistical outputs, safety narratives — with explicit traceability links embedded in the document and maintained automatically through revision. When source data changes between drafts, TraceDraft identifies which document sections are affected and flags them for update, rather than leaving them as stale content that reviewers must track manually. The result is not just faster first drafts — it is more reliable traceability throughout the revision cycle.
Document Types: IB, DSUR, IND Annual, HAQ Responses
The Investigator's Brochure compiles all preclinical and clinical information about an investigational compound relevant to study conduct in a single document. ICH E6 and FDA regulations specify the IB's required content and structure. IBs must be updated at least annually (or more frequently when new significant safety information warrants) and distributed to all active investigators. TraceDraft's IB module maintains the IB as a living document — each section linked to the supporting preclinical reports, clinical study reports, and safety data that it is based on, with version history that allows the reviewer to see what changed between IB versions.
The Development Safety Update Report (DSUR) under ICH E2F is submitted to FDA, EMA, and other regulatory authorities annually during clinical development. It presents the cumulative safety data from all clinical studies of the investigational compound, assessing the benefit-risk balance in the context of the current Development International Birth Date year. DSUR authoring is a data-intensive task: the medical writer must aggregate AE data from all studies, reconcile MedDRA coding across study datasets, calculate exposure-adjusted incidence rates, identify emerging safety signals, and contextualise them against the evolving knowledge base. TraceDraft automates the data aggregation layer so that writers can focus on the clinical interpretation.
